Firm Celebrates Insolvency Win

Posted on January 31, 2013 by Saldutti

Saldutti Law was successful in piercing the corporate veil on behalf of an equipment supplier.  The Superior Court of New Jersey rendered an extensive opinion concerning a creditor claim brought by the firm for the equipment distributor.  The distributor had supplied various pieces of equipment to a defendant who subsequently sold the products and pocketed the funds.  There was no personal guarantee between the parties.  Nevertheless, the defendant went out of business and walked away from their obligation.  The firm filed a lawsuit contending that the corporation had been insolvent and the defendant owner the sole shareholder an obligation to…

Tax Increase Hits Consumer Confidence Hard

Posted on January 30, 2013 by Saldutti

Consumer confidence plunged in January to its lowest level in more than a year, reflecting higher Social Security taxes that left Americans with less take-home pay.  The Conference Board said Tuesday that its consumer confidence index dropped to 58.6 in January. That’s down from 66.7 in December and the lowest since November 2011.  Conference Board economist Lynn Franco said the tax increase was a key reason confidence tumbled and made Americans less optimistic about the next six months. Congress and the White House reached a deal to prevent income taxes from rising on most Americans Jan. 1. But they allowed…

5 Credit Myths to Ditch in 2013

Posted on January 24, 2013 by Saldutti

When one year ends and another begins, it’s hard not to look ahead and strive to do better.  But when it comes to credit, we’re definitely creatures of habit. We resolve to spend less, but open store credit cards anyway. We vow to pay off debt, but only put down the minimum due. We aim to turn our credit around and boost our scores – and while we might think we have a handle on how the system works, we might actually have some misconceptions about credit that can keep our goals out of reach.  So what should you do?…

Is 2013 the Year to Cut the Cable Cord?

Posted on January 22, 2013 by Saldutti

The Good News:  Holiday spending was up about 10% from the past year to the tune of about $28 billion dollars, according to the National Retail Federation.  The Bad News: Unless you paid cash, all those credit card bills are coming due.  With paychecks a little leaner due to the higher payroll taxes, many consumers are trying to figure out what costs can be trimmed to pay off their growing debt.  Some might consider their cable bill and ask “how much am I paying for all these channels?  And why?” With the growth of broadband streaming video and its pay-per-show…

The Real Cost of Traffic Congestion

Posted on January 21, 2013 by Saldutti

We’re in our cars a lot – sometimes for hours at a time – and there are few things more frustrating than getting stuck, bumper to bumper, in a traffic jam. We try not to think about the time and money that are wasted sitting in traffic, but if you do the math they really add up.  In the U.S., most drivers spend more than 50 minutes driving to and from work each day, according to the latest U.S. Census data. And trips can take  nearly twice as long in populous cities like New York and Atlanta. Nationwide Insurance crunched the numbers to find…
